HALIFAX PIECE HALL

The Piece Hall in Halifax is a unique Grade I listed building dating back to 1779, originally built to support the trading of 'pieces' of cloth. Now transformed into a 21st Century town square, The Piece Hall is a place for everyone to enjoy.

SHIBDEN HALL

Shibden Hall was the home of the noted 19th century diarist Anne Lister. Shibden Hall is set in a 32 hectares of informal park and woodland. Explore the beautifully restored historic grounds which offer cascades, pools, tunnels, terraced and fruit gardens and ``Paisley Shawl`` inspired Victorian bedding designs by Joshua Major. Enjoy the boating lake, ride on the miniature railway, play on the pitch and putt course or the new children's play area -suitable for all abilities. The grounds also offer footpaths, an orienteering course and a permanent dry stone walling exhibition - a fine example of this fascinating craft.

BANKFIELD MUSEUM

A Museum since 1887, Bankfield tells the story of Halifax and Calderdale, using its rich and diverse collections. It is set in the attractive surroundings of Akroyd Park, at the centre of Akroydon model village conservation area, a Victorian mansion that was the home of local mill owner, philanthropist and MP, Colonel Edward Akroyd. Bankfield’s exhibitions cover local history, costume, art, toys, military history, jewellery and textiles from around the world.

CALDERDALE INDUSTRIAL MUSEUM

Calderdale Industrial Museum is a museum in the town of Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, dedicated to the industrial heritage of the area. The museum contains a number of working machines built between 1850 - 1930 all of which were either built or used in Halifax.

HALIFAX BOROUGH MARKET

This splendid Grade II* listed Victorian market hall was voted the best in Britain in 2008. Come and enjoy the hustle, bustle and traditional splendor of a thriving retail market with a warm and friendly atmosphere. With several cafes and coffee shops where you can stop for cuppa and a butty (go on, have cake too) you can easily refuel to carry on shopping.

HALIFAX TOWN CENTRE

Halifax is Calderdale's largest town, with stunning Victorian architecture and a strong industrial heritage. Halifax Town Hall is a grade II listed, 19th century town hall in the English town of Halifax, West Yorkshire. It is notable for its design and interiors by Charles Barry and his son, Edward Middleton Barry, and for its sculptures by John Thomas.

HALIFAX SQUARE CHAPEL

Square Chapel Arts Centre is a performing arts venue in the centre of Halifax, West Yorkshire, offering a professional programme of theatre, dance, music, comedy and spoken word. A well-established community outreach programme aims to increase access to the arts through targeted work with a particular focus on people living in Calderdale; this includes a schools programme, activities for children and young people, activities for older people and specific projects for people with learning disabilities.

GUIDED WALKS

There are plenty of options if you prefer to walk with a group or with someone who knows the area and the landscape and heritage. A programme of guided walks exploring the heritage of Calderdale is offered all year round by Calderdale Heritage Walks. The majority of these walks are centred on towns and villages, but some have a more rural feel exploring the old lanes, paths and settlements of our extensive countryside.

OGDEN WATER COUNTRY PARK

Ogden Water offers excellent opportunities to escape from the stresses and strains of everyday life. It is a very popular destination for picnics, walking, family outings and nature activities and was officially Yorkshire's Favourite Reservoir in 2018, having won a public vote. Why not enjoy a picnic at our picnic tables whilst taking in the stunning views.

EUREKA NATIONAL CHILDREN MUSEUM

The only fully interactive museum totally dedicated to children aged 0-11 anywhere in the UK. Nothing is behind a glass cabinet! They have over 400 interactive, hands-on exhibits designed to inspire enquiring minds to find out about themselves and the world around them.

MANOR HEATH AND JUNGLE EXPERIENCE

Manor Heath is a tropical botanic gardens in glasshouses housing exotic butterflies, plants, fish & small animals. Follow a woodland walk, splash about in the water play area and see some exciting wildlife on the Jungle Experience!

VICTORIA THEATER

World-class shows in the friendly heart of Halifax, West Yorkshire. The Victoria Theatre is unlike any other theatre in the region. It is used for a wide range of events and prides itself on an exciting and varied programme. With a choice of 1,512 seats over 3 levels or 1,875 for a standing gig, this flexible space can accommodate intimate plays and children’s shows, as well as raise the roof with the latest bands and live music.

BOATING AT SHIBDEN HALL

No visit to Halifax is complete without trying your hand at rowing on Shibden's very own boating lake. Try this relaxing and fun activity that the whole family will surely love.

HALIFAX MINSTER

Halifax Minster is a handsome 15th Century Grade 1 listed Parish Church; a site of major historical importance, a place of worship, prayer, of civic engagement, education, and culture. It comprises a nave, chancel, and full-length aisles, and is thought to be the third church on this site, but it includes stonework from earlier periods. The organ has been enlarged several times in the 19th and 20th centuries and completely rebuilt in 1928 by Harrison & Harrison of Durham.

Situated within period surroundings close to the Piece Hall and with a stunning design, Pride & Provenance brings you tea & coffees, wine, cured meats & salamis, bread & oil, cheeses, sandwiches, sides and salads.

LOAFERS VINYL AND COFFEE

They have an eclectic selection of new and used vinyl records, with a nod to the classic albums and an introduction to the more obscure. From folk to rock, soundtracks to dance, we try and stock all genres of vinyl records. We also serve freshly ground filter coffee, roasted locally by Darkwoods. Pour over coffee is our speciality and we have at least 8 different coffee beans for you to try, along with freshly baked cakes.

JULIO'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT

Julio’s Italian Restaurant is located in the historic quarter of Halifax, opposite the town hall. We welcome couples and families. A Smart modern restaurant in leather and marble, serving thin-crust pizza and a classic Italian menu.

THE TRADING ROOMS

The Trading Rooms, run by The Piece Hall Trust, is a restaurant that looks out onto the spectacular Piece Hall Courtyard and, during the summer months, offers additional outdoor dining. The family-friendly restaurant has an interesting, contemporary feel, while keeping one foot firmly in its heritage. Delicious seasonal dishes take diners from breakfast through to dinner with imaginative menu changes throughout the day.

OUR POSITION

Situated two minutes’ walk from Halifax town centre/Bus Station. An outdoor market is held three times a week in the town centre, and Halifax Railway Station is just a 5-minute walk away. ​
